BAUP NEWS: SPRING 2010
5th
BAUP meeting announcement
The BAUP meeting in 2010 will be in LONDON at Olympia on OCTOBER 28th and 29th,
again jointly with BAUS Oncology.
We will, once again include international speakers, including a welcome return for
Prof Lars Egevad who as many will know is a fantastic speaker on prostate (this year's main topic). The reaminder of the
programme will be announced when finalised, but following requests to have a 1 and a half day course to allow better
EQA coverage and discussion, we hope to announce an expanded programme this year.
BAUP 4th ANNUAL MEETING REPORT
We had our largest attendence at this meeting, which greatly impressed our distinguishes international speakers.
Prof Lopez Beltran comprehensively and beautifully covered a huge area of bladder pathology, while Prof Ulbright gave an amazing
lecture on testicular pathology, which I am sure, no one present will forget for a long time.
Dr Mary Robinson, retiring
from routine work, gave a fantastic talk on her work on the Protect study, exemplifying the problems of current Gleason
grading. I can offer her no higher praise that she was not outshone by the international speakers. In the absence of Pat Harnden,
the audience were patient with me, as I presented the prostate EQA results. The EQA results were heroically presented
by a swine-flu recovering Nick Meyer, who did not have enough time (mea culpa) and yet did a superb job.
A
fuller report on the meeting will be presented in the minutes of the next meeting.
Comittee positions
Despite Dr Griffiths announcement that there would be a change over of positions this year, this has not occured fully in
practice as we wish to establish a form of democracy in the society, which has not yet occurred and external factors have
been occupying David (understandably) over the past few months! Dr Cathy Corbishley has been proposed as the new secretary
and I have been proposed as the next Chairman. However, anyone wishing to stand for posts or for committee posts should email
Dr Griffiths and we would welcome any expressions of interest. Voting will occur if there are multiple candidates for posts,
probably electronically.
Hobnobs
A meeting of the subgroup of penile pathologist met at St George's in
January. It is amazing how quickly BAUP is growing and forming meetings for challenging subspecialities like penile cancer.
Interested pathologists who subspecialise in penile supraregional centres are encouraged to attend.
COURSES
The bladder/kidney testis course in April is fully subscribed. Dates for next year's courses will be announced
soon.
